Summary
This Tony Award-winning new version of Gilbert and Sullivan’s comic opera presented on Broadway by Joseph Papp with new orchestrations by William Eliott is rauous, rollicking and ribald. It is a classic suffused with a modern sensibility and its humor song and dance is a surefire hit for every generation.

Aamar-Malik Culbreth (Frederic) is a Cleveland-based performer originally from North Carolina and is so grateful and honored to be making his Cape Rep Theatre debut with this beautiful group of artists after closing both The Color Purple (Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera) and In The Heights (Cleveland Play House) earlier this summer. Some of his favorite roles include Romeo in Romeo & Juliet, Lysander in A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Utah Shakespeare Festival), Youngblood in Jitney (Beck Center), Tiny in Kill Move Paradise, Edmond Hodges in What We Look Like (Dobama Theatre), Pippin in Pippin, and Everybody in Everybody (Baldwin Wallace University). Lee Cohen* (Pirate King) is an LA based actor/director. He could not be more excited to return to the Cape Rep family! You may have seen him last on stage as Mendel Schultz in the 2019 production of Indecent. Lee’s voice can be heard on Netflix, Disney+ and most other streaming platforms as a voice over actor for animation and foreign language dubbing. Juliet Pearson (Mabel) is delighted to be making her debut with the Cape Rep Theatre. Recent credits include Romeo and Juliet with Shakespeare On The Lake, Mason Wright Is Not A Mother with Fredonia State University/The Alleyway Theatre, and Eurydice with Fredonia Performing Arts Company. Holly Hansen (Ruth) A long time fan of Penzance, Holly is delighted to return to the Cape Rep stage. She was most recently seen opposite Amy Brenneman in Overcome and as the title role in Hello, Dolly! before directing Legally Blonde this May at Cotuit. Other favorite Cape performance credits include: Beatrice in Much Ado (CCftA), Baker’s Wife in Into the Woods (ETC), Barrel in Urinetown (Tilden). Much love and gratitude to Ari for being just as weird as me (even when people think you’re weirder).
Jared Hagan (Major-General) is an Associate Artist at Cape Rep Theatre where he has appeared in over 35 productions. Some of his favorites include this season’s Our Town, Something Rotten!, Merrily We Roll Along, A New Brain, Hairspray, La Cage Aux Folles, Failure: A Love Story, Avenue Q, and The Drowsy Chaperone as well as a decade of Outdoor Theater children’s shows. Ari Lew (Samuel) This is Ari’s 6th time playing a pirate at Cape Rep! He was also seen in Noises Off, A Man of No Importance, Mamma Mia, Much Ado About Nothing, Heart of the Wreck, and Tumacho. Other recent credits include Betrayal (WHAT/Harbor Stage Company), Bread and Butter (Harbor Stage Company, and Fully Committed (Ccfta black box). He can also be seen this summer on the outdoor stage in Maya Mouse’s Madcap House of Movies, Music, and Mayhem. He is quite pleased to be sharing this experience with his (much prettier than plain) wife Holly Hansen.
Hailey Deltano (Edith) is so excited to be making her Cape Rep debut! She is a New England based performer from Brockton Massachusetts and a recent graduate from Rhode Island College with a Bachelor of Arts in Music. Hailey has been singing and performing for around 13 years, specializing in all sorts of genres including Opera, Musical Theatre, Jazz, Rock, Pop and more. Some of her favorite previous roles include Chris Hargensen in Carrie (AssemblyACT), Jordan Baker in GATSBY (AssemblyACT), and Bea in Something Rotten (East End Theatre & Performing Arts). Most recently, she has taken a seat in the directors chair, directing the Assembly Sing Voice Workshop at The Assembly Theatre in Harrisville, Rhode Island. She has also had the pleasure of Assistant Music Directing Carrie (AssemblyACT) and The Lightning Thief (Swamp Meadow Community Theatre.) Hailey would like to thank her friends, family and The Assembly for always supporting her.
Perry Gill (Kate) is a Senior at Walnut Hill School for the Arts and is so excited to be a part of her first Main Stage production at Cape Rep Theatre. She was most recently seen as Janet Van De Graaf in Nauset Player’s The Drowsy Chaperone, and as Ross in CCTC/HJT’s Macbeth. She is so proud to be on the Cape Rep stage in Pirates of Penzance.
Elle McNally (Isabel) is so grateful to be a part of Pirates of Penzance at CapeRep. Community Theater credits include: Penny (Urinetown), Mary Robert (Sister Act), Chris (Carrie: The Musical). She is a current Sophomore at James Madison University for Theatre Performance (Go Dukes!). Elle Krebs (Ensemble) is so exited to make her Cape Rep debut in Pirates of Penzance! A classically trained ballet dancer and musician, favorite credits include: Brooke in Legally Blonde (RTW), Sandy in Grease (RTW), Fastrada in Pippin (BAL), Anna in Spring Awakening (RTW), Rita in White Christmas (MTC), and Connie in A Chorus Line (BAL).
Alex Murray (Ensemble) is so excited to be back for her third summer performing at Cape Rep! During the year, she spends her time at Marymount Manhattan College, studying for her BFA in Musical Theatre. Some favorite past credits include: Head Over Heels (Marymount Manhattan College), The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane and Mamma Mia (Cape Rep). Mo O’Neill (Ensemble) is a senior in high school and is so happy to be returning to the Cape Rep stage after performing in Winter’s Tale and Dead End with Cape Rep’s YoCo. You may have recently seen them as Prin in Princess and the Pea (CCTC/HJT) or as Michael in Matilda (CCFTA).
Davis Parks (Ensemble) is thrilled to be making his Cape Rep debut. He received his BFA in Musical Theater from the University of Miami. Previous credits include The Three Musketeers (Porthos) and Take Flight (Wilbur). He’d like to thank the team at the Cape Rep for the warm welcome and support, along with his family and friends.
Justin Torrellas (Ensemble/Woodwinds) BM Music Performance (Bassoon) at Indiana University; student of legends David McGill, Kim Walker, Arthur Weisberg, Michael McCraw, and Roger Soren. He has performed with orchestras, opera, and musical theatre pits throughout the USA and toured Europe. After a decade away from music spent training and competing for the USA Pentathlon National Team, he returned to his artistic roots appearing in productions throughout the region as both an actor, in-demand woodwind doubler, and recording artist. Favorite productions include Indecent (Cape Rep), Legally Blonde (APA), and Muskrat Love (CCfTA). Proud father to daughter Io.

Sarah Elizabeth Wansley (Director) directs and develops new plays and musicals, as well as highly theatrical adaptations of classic works. Sarah is currently the BOLD Associate Artistic Director at Northern Stage in White River Junction, Vermont. Previously she was the Artistic Producer at Chautauqua Theater Company and the inaugural recipient of the Cleveland Play House Artistic Directing Fellowship for Women. Recent directing projects include Constellations, Sweat, Spring Awakening and Heisenberg at Northern Stage, Steel Magnolias at Weston Theater Company, The Amish Project at PlayMakers Repertory Company and Egress at Cleveland Play House. She has directed new work at Chautauqua Theater Company, New York Stage and Film, The Flea Theater, Ensemble Studio Theatre/Youngblood, the La Jolla Playhouse’s Without Walls Festival, the McCarter Theatre’s Youth Ink Festival, Luna Stage, and Pipeline Theatre Company. Sarah received her MFA in Directing from UCSD under acclaimed Romanian director Gabor Tompa and a BA in English Literature from Columbia University (summa cum laude). Upcoming: a world premiere musical The Vermont Farm Project (book by Jessica Kahkoska, music and lyrics by Tommy Crawford) at Northern Stage.
Scott Storr (Musical Director) served as resident musical director for Cape Rep Theatre for over 25 years. He is thrilled to be back again this year, working with these talented actors, the terrific creative team, AND…to be sharing this fun show with the Cape’s wonderful audiences. His over 65 musicals, musical revues, and children’s shows with Cape Rep include: Sunday in the Park With George, A Man of No Importance, Funny Girl, Avenue Q, Something Rotten, Next to Normal, Side Show, The Drowsy Chaperone, Mack and Mabel, The Light in the Piazza, Ragtime, Steel Pier, Xanadu!, The Full Monty, Evita!, Spamalot!, Urinetown, Lady in the Dark, My Fair Lady, Dirty Blonde, A Year With Frog and Toad, How I Became a Pirate, The Wizard of Oz, La Cage Aux Folles, A Class Act and Tick, Tick…Boom; conceiving and directing 14 years of the Sea Pines Summer Musical Revues and 11 years of the All Our Best benefit revues. Scott also has served as resident musical director for CV REP Theatre in Cathedral City, California. Shows there include Chess, Closer Than Ever, Baby, The Story of My Life, A Class Act and the reimagined revival of the musical, Ballroom. Other shows in California and his home state of Arizona include Applause, Dear World, It’s a Grand Night for Singing, Zorba, Putting It Together, The Jungle Book, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella, Songs for a New World, Captain Louis and The King and I. Scott has won both Zoni and Desert Theatre League awards for Best Musical Direction. This show and all of Scott’s music is dedicated to his mom and dad for their never-ending love and support.
Brianna Mercado (Choreography) is a choreographer, dance artist, and educator based in New York City. She is passionate about storytelling that viscerally affects audiences through human connection. Originally from San Jose, CA, she attended the University of California Berkeley and graduated with a double major in Dance & Performance Studies and Social Welfare. Standout credits include: Theater: The Comedy of Errors (The Public Theater- Associate Choreographer), It Happened In Key West (The Fulton- Choreographer), The Untitled Unauthorized Hunter S. Thompson Musical (La Jolla Playhouse – Associate Choreographer), TEDx “Not Another Cancer Story,” Godspell (PCLO – Associate Choreographer), West Side Story (Milwaukee Rep – Associate Choreographer & Dance Captain), Urinetown (Starting Arts – Choreographer), Jesus Christ Superstar & Aida (MUNY – Dance Captain); Film: Isn’t It Romantic, Netflix: Making Malinche: A Documentary by Nacho Cano; US AirForce Band Airmen of Note; Industrial: PHISH NYE 2020 at Madison Square Garden. Alongside creating and performing, Brianna stays inspired through work in dance education and graduate school studies in Mind-Body Medicine. Ryan McGettigan (Scenic Design) Ryan is a Houston-based scenic designer of theater, opera, and dance working across the country and Europe. He is the Resident Designer at Cape Rep Theatre in Brewster, MA as well as a Company Artist with Prague Shakespeare Company and the Classical Theatre Company of Houston. Regional Credits: Theatre under the Stars, Stages Repertory Theatre, Orlando Shakespeare Theater, Shakespeare & Company, Cape Rep, Abilene Shakespeare Festival, Legacy Theatre, Prague Shakespeare Company. Opera and Dance: Glimmerglass Festival, New Orleans Opera, Opera San Jose, HGOco, Open Dance Project, and the Houston Ballet.
Susan Nicholson (Lighting Design) is a northeast based lighting designer. Her theatrical work has been seen at Cape Rep Theatre (19th season), Prospect Theatre Company, Collage Dance Collective and many others. Her corporate work has been seen all over the country and world including events such as US Open Hospitality, John Wick Cast and Crew Party, Conservation International Gala, United Nations Day Concert at the UN, the Oculus Holiday Kick Off Party, Coldwell Banking Annual Meeting at Radio City Music Hall and Headliner’s Acts on the Norwegian Prima. Robin McLoughlin (Costume Design) when Robin was 5 someone asked her what she wanted to be when she grew up, “A designer,” she said, and she has been sewing and creating ever since. Moving to Southern California at 21, Robin started her career as a costumer in film when there were 3 networks and it was TV vs film. After 2 years in Australia and following the birth of her daughter Leanne, they relocated to Cape Cod, where Robin has worked as an acclaimed costume designer for theaters across the Cape and Islands for the last 25 years.
ty ruwe (Stage Manager, they/them) is a Boston based stage manager and teaching artist currently working towards a stage management MFA at the David Geffen School of Drama at Yale. They are excited to be stage managing at Cape Rep for the first time! While at Yale they Assistant Stage Managed HELLYOUTALMBOUT, Pearl’s Beauty Salon, and a beautiful bilingual cut of Hamlet; they were lead stage manager on My Six Therapists. Outside of school, selected ASM credits include: The Half Life of Marie Curie and Ada and the Engine (Central Square Theater); Fairview (SpeakEasy Stage Company); and Romeo and Juliet (Commonwealth Shakespeare Company). Selected SM credits include: tech and performances of Non-Player Character (MIT Theater), Your Town (Central Square Theater, Cambridge Riverfest), and Medusa Reclaimed (Central Square Theater’s That’s What She Said! program). They also have experience with live captioning and believe working towards a more accessible present and future is essential. When they’re not working or studying, they enjoy nature walks or playing The Sims 4.
Tori Mondello (Stage Manager) is thrilled to continue her work with Cape Rep Theatre and this extraordinary company of creators. Her recent Stage Manager experiences include Cape Rep’s Our Town, A Man of No Importance, Archibald Avery, Bold Company and Young Company, Prelude to a Kiss, and From the Heart of the Wreck. Tori is a recent graduate of NYU Abu Dhabi’s theater program where she primarily studied lighting design and is excited to be back in her home state working as a stage manager.
Nat Konowicz (Assistant Stage Manager) is a recent graduate of Tabor Academy where she fell in love with theatre and was part of the production team and/or cast for ten shows including Hope and Gravity, After Life, Love of a Pig, The 39 Steps, which she helped bring to Ellesmere College in England, and Women in Congress. Originally from Colorado, she grew up spending summers at her grandparents’ home in Brewster and is thrilled to join Cape Rep this season. In the fall, Nat will attend Brown University to study creative writing, theatre, and film.
