Summary

Writers writing the story of a writer trying to write a story… An Author has a deadline; when he sits down to write his story, the tale of the strange old man in the creepy house down the lane, pops out. The mythology of childhood fears in the scary world of grown ups, Archibald Avery is a unique original musical from the imaginations of three young artists and a fascinating exploration of the creative process.

Macklin Devine (Author 1) most recently appeared at Cape Rep with the YoCo as Shepherd in Winter’s Tale and Ghost/Player Ensemble in Waiting for Ham. He also appeared as Edward/musician in The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane and Puck in Rock the Bard: Midsummer. One of Macklin’s favorite theater memories is when he appeared as Odysseus in the YoCo production of The Odyssey. Other credits: Cape Rep: Shakespeare in Love (Webster), Billy Elliot the Musical (Tall Boy/Posh Boy), Jerusalem (Markie), and Mamma Mia!, with YoCo: Great Expectations (Herbert/Pip), Macbeth (Witch 1/Murderer1), Once In a Lifetime (Lawrence Vail); Harwich Junior Theatre: To Kill a Mockingbird (Dill); Romeo in 4C’s production of Romeo and Juliet. Paddo Devine (Author 2) A founding member of the rock band Club 9-Ball, Paddo was last seen at Cape Rep in Rock the Bard: Midsummer and working behind the scenes on set construction for numerous productions. Seamus Devine (Author 3) is the rummer for the band Club 9-Ball and has been involved with Cape Rep Theatre his whole life working as a house manager, sound and lighting operator, set carpenter and crew as well as playing in the band for Rock the Bard: Midsummer in the summer of 2021. www.club9ball.com

Brian Lore Evans (Man) is a graduate of The American Repertory Theater’s Institute for Advanced Theatre Training at Harvard University, and is a recent transplant to the Cape Cod theatre scene. Before relocating Brian lived in New York, where he acted professionally and worked as a teaching artist for ENACT drama therapy.

Maura Hanlon (Director) is the Associate Artistic Director at Cape Rep Theatre and is thrilled to have this opportunity to collaborate with her three sons on such a remarkable new piece of theater. Mo’s most recent directorial credits include Winter’s Tale with the 2023 Young Company, and last season’s Prelude to a Kiss and Tumacho. Favorite directing credits include The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, Indecent, Men on Boats, Failure: A Love Story, Jerusalem, Eurydice, Wintertime, The Rose Tattoo (Cape Rep) and Peter Pan and Wendy (HJT). A sometime-actor, she was most recently seen on stage at Cape Rep last summer reprising her role as Rosie in Mamma Mia!. She is a frequent sound designer (including for this show, Ken Ludwig’s Dear Jack, Dear Louise, My Name is Asher Lev, to name just a few), and an occasional playwright (Good Bye Mary Rose, Dinosaur Pirates from Outerspace!, which she also composed, and Alice in Wonderland, along with many adaptations for YoCo with Janine Perry). Mo is a Holy Cross grad, studied acting and directing at Trinity Rep Conservatory and received her MFA in directing from UCSD. Extra-special thanks to her incredibly supportive family, Paddo, Seamus, Macklin and Art, the latter who achieved sainthood during this process.

Ryan McGettigan (Scenic Design) Ryan is a Houston-based scenic designer of theater, opera, and dance working across the country and Europe. He is the Resident Designer at Cape Rep Theatre in Brewster, MA as well as a Company Artist with Prague Shakespeare Company and the Classical Theatre Company of Houston. Regional Credits: Theatre under the Stars, Stages Repertory Theatre, Orlando Shakespeare Theater, Shakespeare & Company, Cape Rep, Abilene Shakespeare Festival, Legacy Theatre, Prague Shakespeare Company. Opera and Dance: Glimmerglass Festival, New Orleans Opera, Opera San Jose, HGOco, Open Dance Project, and the Houston Ballet.

Lighting Design

Phil Kong (Lighting Design) Cape Rep Theatre credits include Tumacho, Shakespeare in Love, Boundless (Scenic Design), A New Brain, Men On Boats, Mr. Burns–a post electric play, Failure: A Love Story, Jerusalem, and Next to Normal. Phil’s work has been seen internationally in dance, theater, music and other live events. His most recent work includes lighting design for the German tours of Memphis, and Ghost, production design for The Album Leaf’s One Day XX tour, as well as working on the Soundstorm Music Festival as a Screens Producer in Saudi Arabia, and spot calling for the 2022 League of Legends World Championships opening ceremony. Upcoming projects include lighting design for the bands Schrottgrenze and the Album Leaf for each of their 2023 tours, and traveling the US in the summer with his wife and daughters.

Robin McLaughlin (Costume Design) when Robin was 5 someone asked her what she wanted to be when she grew up, “A designer” she said and she has been sewing and creating ever since. Moving to Southern California at 21, Robin started her career as a costumer in film when there were 3 networks and it was TV vs film. After 2 years in Australia and following the birth of her daughter Leanne, they relocated to Cape Cod, where Robin has worked as an acclaimed costume designer for theaters across the Cape and Islands for the last 25 years.

Vocal Coach

Alison Weller (Vocal Coach) is an actor, coach, educator and writer with a long history at Cape Rep. She has worked on and off Broadway and in many regional theaters, and can be seen on screen in The Good House, Spirited, Don’t Look Up and Hocus Pocus 2. A classically trained actor who trained in Linklater at UC San Diego, Alison has been the voice and speech coach with Cape Rep’s education programs, YoCo, VetCo and BoldCo, since their inception.

Stage Manager

Tori Mondello (Stage Manager) is thrilled to continue her work at Cape Rep Theatre with Archibald Avery. Her recent Stage Manager experiences include Cape Rep’s Bold Company and Young Company, Prelude to a Kiss, and From the Heart of the Wreck. Tori is a recent graduate of NYU Abu Dhabi’s theater program and is excited to be back in her home state working as a stage manager.
