AUDITIONS FOR 9-BALL by Art Devine

Saturday, February 14, 2026 from 3 pm – 6 pm by appointment

At Cape Rep Indoor Theater

Rehearsal Period: begins on or about April 6, 2026

Production Dates: May 6, 2026 through May 31, 2026

Cape Rep Theatre will hold open auditions for our 2026 production of 9-Ball  by Art Devine on Saturday, February 14 from 3 pm – 6  pm at Cape Rep’s Indoor Theater. Roles are available for 8 men between the ages of 18 and 35.

Auditions are by appointment but walk-ins will be seen on a first come, first served basis in between scheduled appointments.

Submission instructions:

  • Please email an appointment request along with your headshot and resume to auditions@caperep.org.
  • A monologue is not required. You may be asked to read from the script.
  • Please bring a headshot and resumé if you have one.

ROLES TO BE CAST:

LARRY DOUCETTE, a clean-cut kid from a working class family. A Catholic of French-Canadian descent. Although he has a gift with numbers, he barely graduated from high school. He is 18 years old.

EDDIE FOGAL, a baby-faced 18 year old soldier in Vietnam. Also plays VINNY PETRECHO, a drugged-out convict and Larry’s cellmate.

ROCKY THOMAS, a young Black soldier who is tone deaf. Also plays MINK, a leg-breaker who works for a semi-successful racketeer in Albany, NY.

BRAD COYNE, a prison supervisor. Also plays several other roles

TOM DURKEE, a prison guard. Also plays several other roles

SERGEANT WIRTMAN, a Drill Instructor, Fort Dix, New Jersey. Also plays several other roles

FRANK ALLISON, a Detective from Troy, New York. Also plays several other roles, ARMY LIEUTENANT, an Officer who works at the Induction Center, Albany

BAKER, a radio operator of the Ranger Company. Also plays several other roles

About the play: The year is 1967. Over a game of pool, two young men swap identities. One goes to prison; the other to war. Inspired by true events and pulsating with the sights and sounds of the late 1960s, 9-Ball was Art Devine’s hugely successful first play at Cape Rep and is being brought back in celebration of its 25th Anniversary.

Cape Rep Theatre will be holding open auditions for our 2026 season of plays and musicals. Auditions are by appointment and being held on Saturday, February 21 from 1 – 4 pm and Sunday, February 22 from 1 – 4 pm at Cape Rep Indoor Theater, 3299 Rte 6A, Brewster, MA 02631.

About the auditions:

We are seeking actors, singers and dancers of all races, ages, ethnicities and gender identities. All roles are available. A list of productions and roles to be cast is forthcoming. To stay up to date visit www.caperep.org/auditions/

Actor/musicians (guitar) wanted for the world premiere musical The Hundred Aker Wood by Macklin Devine, Seamus Devine and Paddo Devine; and the Cape Cod premiere of the Tony Award-winning Girl from the North Country written by Conor McPherson, music and lyrics by Bob Dylan.

Submission instructions: Please email an appointment request along with your headshot and resumé to auditions@caperep.org. If you’d like to be considered for one of our musicals, please prepare two 16-bar songs: one in the style of Bob Dylan, one in the style of musical theater. Monologues are not necessary but you may be asked for a cold reading. If you play the guitar, please bring it to accompany yourself on your Dylan-esque song. Please bring a headshot and resumé if you have one.

GIRL FROM THE NORTH COUNTRY
Cape cod Premiere
Written by Conor McPherson, Music & Lyrics by Bob Dylan

Setting: a boarding house in Duluth, Minnesota, 1934. All of the characters in the play have secrets they are are hiding.

Please let us know if you can play a musical instrument (guitar, mandolin, fiddle…)

NICK LAINE early fifties, proprietor of the boarding house; restless, struggling to support his family but lousy at business; his wife’s caretaker. Not necessarily a singing role.

ELIZABETH LAINE early fifties, NIck’s wife; strong-willed with a sharp, acerbic wit, she is living with worsening dementia.

MARIANNE LAINE nineteen, Black; their adopted daughter who was abandoned at the boarding house as a baby. Pregnant but father is unknown.

GENE LAINE twenties, their son; smart, the soul of an artist and dreamer; wants to be a writer; Dulls his pain with alcohol.

MRS. NEILSEN early forties, a widow; long-term resident of the boarding house awaiting her dead husband’s money to come through; strong and self-possessed; Nick’s mistress.

MR. BURKE fifties, was once a successful businessman but bearing the burden of his family obligations.

MRS. BURKE fifties, his wife; her beauty and youth have been eroded by the effort of taking care of her son; she can feel the possibilities life should offer her slipping away.

ELIAS BURKE thirty, their son; a grown man with developmental disabilities; sweet and innocent but unaware of his size and strength.

JOE SCOTT late twenties, Black; a boxer; his career was interrupted by a stay in prison and he is trying to get his future on track.

REVEREND MARLOWE fifties, a Bible salesman con artist.

MR. PERRY early sixties, a shoe mender; a widower with a stable income, Nick is trying to get him to marry Marianne.

DR. WALKER middle-aged, a physician; as a bit of an outsider, he is the perfect narrator for the story.

KATHERINE DRAPER Gene’s ex-girlfriend; bright, hopeful, represents the way forward; for Gene, Kate I s the one who got away.

This is not our day-time show for children. If you can play the guitar, please showcase those talents at your audition.

One Grizzly Bear with a low growly voice and a hearty appetite;

One Small Pig who can sing but is afraid to;

One Nervous Rabbit who is a Know-It-All;

One Human-Sized Barn Owl with a Scottish accent;

One Old, Cranky Donkey;

One Full-Sized “Boy” with a guitar (that he knows how to play).
